The Union Pacific Roanoke Roadswitcher shoves ten empty cement cars from local industry Texas Lehigh Cement Company onto eight cars pulled from industries in Denton, Texas. These cars are being positioned at the south end of Roanoke so that a southbound train can pick them up and take them to Fort Worth for classification. This move is an example of Union Pacific's implementation of the late E. Hunter Harrison's Precision Scheduled Railroading. The empty unit cement cars used to move in a unit train from Roanoke to a facility for loading. Now the cars are moved piecemeal in manifest service. I wonder how the hump at Davidson Yard is handling all of the extra carload business... UP SD40N 1720 and UP SD40N 1859 - Roanoke, Texas - 5-14-2019 - C.M.Palmieri Photo. |
