Here is a photo that was included in the "Altoona Area Railroad Pictorial History" edited by Linda White and published in 1996 by The Altoona Mirror, page 90. Photo Caption: "Two locomotives push a westbound freight out of Altoona in 1946. A view of the car shops and freight station, with the Cathedral and ice houses in the background." Their road numbers are not recorded. The PRR's 12th Street Car Shops are located at the far left; a coal-fired, steam-powered pile driver is partially visible at the right. Photo taken from the 9th Street Footbridge. |
