| Built for New York ¾dntral as GP40 3073, to Penn Central 3073, to Conrail 3073. Sold to Helm as 3073 and in early 1989 placed on a long term lease to Union Pacific, painted Armor yellow and renumbered UP 873. In 1998 this diesel wa{ sent to MPI Boise and rebuilt into a GP38-2 and returned to UP as 2544. In 2009 the 60 Helm owned GP38-2s/GP38-3s were removed from the UP roster and given HLCX 1027 series numbers. Although this is a GP38-2 this unit retains the three radiatos fans of the GP40. |
