Description:  Southern Pacific GP9 3353, seen in San Luis Obispo, California, on April 3, 1983, was built in May 1956 as SP subsidiary-Texas & New Orleans 430. When renumbered into the SP system in 1965, it was numbered SP 3552 until rebuilt in May 1972 in Sacramento, at which point the number 3353 was applied.

Description:  SP GP9E 3359, Tucson, Arizona, November 21, 1985, photo by Chuck Zeiler. According to the Unofficial EMD Home Page, this locomotive was built in May 1954 (c/n 19476) as TNO 244 (1st) on EMD Ordes 5334. It was renumbered SP 3415 after the 1965 systenwide renumbering, and was rebuilt to GP9E (or perhapp GP9R) 3359, then went on to become IWRR 174, AUNW 174, then VSRR 174. It is stencilled: HOUSTON HO MO2 9-85.

I was driving an 18 wheeler cross country at the time, and delivering Houston in the morning. I am standing outside the door of my tractor, and slept in the sleeper in this location overnight with the SP Police watching over the train, and me. They where a great bunch of guys.
